Alex, in the post above, is right on the money.
However, in case your default isn't set that way, and it won't work-----go to "options" to "general preferences" and scroll to "message action", where you'll find the "auto complete"option. You may need to check the box for ---use auto complete.

First off.
You need to add your person(s) contact information. It consists of email and name most of the time.
You save it into the virtual address book your email provider provides.
You compose a message, type the first letter of the email address into the address bar.
Options should appear then click on the one you desire.
