How do I make yahoo's compose page my default email when I click on a button "contact us"?

If you want to use Yahoo! Mail as your default email client, you have to have an application called Yahoo! Internet Mail installed on your computer, which is included in the Yahoo! Messenger installation. If you don't want Messenger, don't worry, you can uninstall it immediately -- in fact, you don't have to run it even once.

When the installer runs, you have to install the Browser Tools. This is probably included in the Typical Install; if not select the Custom Install and check the box next to Browser Tools.

When the installation is complete, you don't have to run Messenger. If you don't want it at all, you can uninstall it right then from your Control Panel %26gt;%26gt; Add/Remove Programs. (Just be sure not to remove Yahoo! Internet Mail.)

Now you will be able to select Yahoo! Mail in Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Programs.

Go here to download Messenger:

Edit: After the installation, verify that the necessary program was installed by going to your Control Panel %26gt;%26gt; Add/Remove Programs. If you see 'Yahoo! Internet Mail' in the list, you're all set. If it's not listed, I'm not sure why it wasn't installed but try uninstalling both Yahoo! Browser Services and Yahoo! Messenger, and try downloading Messenger again.

On Step 2 of the installation, under "Choose Products To Install" you can select the Custom Install. I'm beginning to think you should choose this even though it says the Browser Services are included in the Typical Install.

I know this works with Internet Explorer under Windows XP.

If you're using Firefox 2: this should work for you as well, but when you click on a mailto link Yahoo! Mail will open in Internet Explorer. If you want Yahoo! Mail to open in Firefox, you need to install a Firefox Add-On called WebmailCompose. For complete instructions on installing and configuring it, see:

If you're using Firefox 1.5: You can install WebmailCompose from mozilla.com. Because it's for an older version of Firefox, it's in the "Sandbox" so you will need to login or create an account and then enable 'Show Sandbox' in your account settings.
